HartBeat’s latest educational program kicks off this April at Noah Webster Micro-Society School. Named, “Startin’ Drama,” participating students in this extended-day program will create theater about bullying, while working on Language Arts skills.
HartBeat will be conducting three sessions of the program, one each for 5th, 6th and 7th grades. At the end of the four-week session, students, families and teachers will attend a final dinner and interactive theater event where students perform their three original scenes.
Students will receive training in consensus decision making, physical theater, vocal technique and play-writing. Using bullying as a focal point, HartBeat will lead students in arts-integration activities addressing Language Arts GLEs such as gathering and paraphrasing information from a variety of resources, completing drafts, demonstrating connections among ideas, and making oral presentations.
