YOUTH PLAY INSTITUTE YPI brings urban and suburban youth together for an intensive play creation process. By teaching youth to communicate with each other through theater, the Institute breaks down racial and economic stereotypes and exposes participants to people they have thus far been sheltered from. WORKSHOPS Inspired by Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed, HartBeat helps participants explore ways to alter situations which adversely affect their lives. These workshops have been used in over 40 schools, universities and institutions. Workshops.html

HartBeat Now Educating From Kindergarten to College

Although you may not hear about them often, our education programs are part of the bedrock of our mission. Our ever-expanding programs have grown to include a kindergarten program at Kinsella Magnet School, an introductory theater course at Manchester Community College, our next installment of Youth Play Institute for high schools and a partnership with a local YouthBuild program.
